Alice Springs Art
Alice Springs is the Northern Territory’s third largest town, situated in the geographic centre of Australia near the southern border of the Northern Territory. The site is known as Mparntwe to the Arrente people, who are the traditional inhabitants.
Ampilatwatja Art
Ampilatwatja is the largest of three communities under the Aherrenge Aboriginal Association in Central Australia. It is located in the Northern Territory about 320 km north-east of Alice Springs. The people of Ampilatwatja form part of the Alywarr language group.
APY Lands Art
The APY (Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara) Lands is a major Aboriginal local government zone in the inland of South Australia. It was established in 1981 and covers an area over 100,000 square kilometres of arid country in the northwest corner of South Australia.
Arnhem Land Art
Arnhem Land is located in the north-eastern corner of the Northern Territory including Kakadu National Par. It remains one of the largest Aboriginal Reserves in Australia and is perhaps best known for its isolation, the art of its people, and the strong continuing traditions of its Indigenous inhabitants.
Balgo Hills Art
Balgo Hills, or Wirramanu, is a remote community about 200km west of the Northern Territory – Western Australian border, on the edges of the Tanami and Great Sandy Deserts.
Bidyadanga Art
Bidyadanga is one of the larger Aboriginal communities in Western Australia, located on the coast 200 km south of Broome, on the edge of the Kimberley.
Daly River Art
Daly River town in the Northern Territory is 230km south of Darwin, by the river crossing and centred on the Aboriginal community of Nauiyu, originally the site of a Catholic mission.
Darwin Art
Darwin is the regional capital of the Northern Territory, located on the north coast on the Timor Sea. Darwin is home to local Aboriginal people, the Larrikia people.
Docker River Art
Docker River community, also called Kaltukatjara, is situated in the Petermann Ranges in the far south-western corner of the Northern Territory, about 7 km east of the Western Australian border.
Fitzroy Crossing Art
Fitzroy Crossing is the regional hub for the south east Kimberley, and a major centre for Aboriginal culture in the area. The town is located on the Fitzroy River surrounded by vast flood plains that provide pastoral land for the extensive beef cattle stations of the Fitzroy Valley.

Haasts Bluff Art
Haasts Bluff, also known as Ikuntji, is located in the Central Desert 223 km north west of Alice Springs, at the site near the rocky outcrop named Haasts Bluff by the explorer Ernest Giles during his expedition in 1872.
Hermannsburg Watercolour Art
The Hermannsburg School of Painters refers to the group of artists who followed after Albert Namatjira, whose watercolour paintings brought the beauty of the West MacDonnell Ranges to the attention of all Australians in the middle of the 20th century.
Iwantja Art
Iwantja Community is located on the eastern side of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, close to the Stuart Highway in the far north of South Australia.
Kalumburu Art
Kalumburu is the most northerly permanent settlement in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, and is situated on the King Edward River.
Kintore Art
Kintore is a remote settlement in the Northern Territory located 530 km west of Alice Springs, close to the border with Western Australia.
Kiwirrkura Art
Kiwirrkura is a small community in the Gibson Desert in Western Australia, 1200 km east of Port Headland and 850 km west of Alice Springs.
Kununurra Art
Kununurra is a town in the far north of Western Australia, located at the eastern extremity of the Kimberley Region, approximately 37 kilometres from the border with the Northern Territory.
Lajamanu Art
Lajamanu community is located 550 kilometres south west of the town of Katherine in the Northern Territory, in semi-arid country on the edge of the Tanami Desert.
Lockhart River Art
The isolated Aboriginal community of Lockhart River on Cape York in far north Queensland has a population of around 450. The nearest city Cairns is about 800 kilometres to the south. Lockhart River, formerly an Anglican mission, was established in 1924.
Maningrida Art
Maningrida community in the central northern Arnhem Land coast is in the traditional homelands of the Kunibidji people and is one of the country’s largest Aboriginal communities, with over 2000 residents.
Martumili Artists
Martumili Artists is a highly respected art collective based in the Western Desert of Australia. The group has become a shining beacon in contemporary Aboriginal art.
Mount Liebig Art
Mount Liebig, 325 km to the west of Alice Springs in the Central Desert, is close to the heart of the region where the modern Desert Art movement began.
Mowanjum Art
Mowanjum community is located near to the town of Derby, on the southern end of the Gibb River Road in west Kimberley.
Mt Allan Art
Mt Allan is the home of Yuelamu artists and is situated on the edge of the Tanami desert, 270 km north west of Alice Springs, in Central Australia.
Murray River Art
The Murray River is Australia’s longest and most serviceable river, running 2500 kms from the Australian Alps through open plains country to the coast in South Australia. The Murray River forms the state border between Victoria and New South Wales.
Papunya Art
Papunya community in the Central Desert is 240km north-west of Alice Springs, and it is here that the Desert Painting movement began in 1971.
Roper River Ngukurr Art
Roper River is one of the largest rivers in the Northern Territory, extending east for over 500 km through south-east Arnhem Land to meet the sea in Limmen Bight on the Gulf of Carpentaria.
South West WA Art
The south-west region of Western Australia is home to the Noongar people. Spread across a large area, fourteen different tribal groups have occupied lands between Esperance and Geraldton, talking in towns and cities, coastal areas and drier inland regions.
Spinifex Art
The indigenous people from the desert community of Tjuntjuntjara, 700 km north east of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia, are known as the Spinifex People.
Tiwi Islands Art
The Tiwi Islands, located in the Timor Sea 100km north of Darwin, are home to the Tiwi people and consist of two main islands, Melville Island, (5,788 sq kms) and Bathurst Island (2,200 sq Kms). The Apsely Strait divides the islands and separates them from the Australian mainland.
Tjukurla Art
Tjukurla community is located in Western Australia near to the border with the Northern Territory, situated 810 kms from Alice Springs by road and 94 kms north of the Great Central Road. The community sits alongside a large salt lake, Lake Hopkins, with surrounding country dominated by sandhills, claypans and desert oak trees. The name Tjukurla itself refers to a round shaped rockhole.
Torres Strait Art
The Torres Strait Islands are a group of 274 small islands which lie in the straits separatingCape York Peninsula in far northern Queensland from the island of New Guinea.
Utopia Art
Utopia is located 270 km north-east of Alice Springs on the eastern perimeter of the Western Desert ‘bloc’, next to the traditional land of the Eastern Anmatyarre and Alyawarre people.
Wangkatjungka Art
Wangkatjungka is a remote community situated 120 km south-east of Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
Warakurna Art
Warakurna community is located along the Rawlinson Ranges, near to the West Australia/Northern Territory border, and about 330 kms west from Uluru. The community is in the NPY Lands on the Great Central Road.
Warmun Art
Warmun community is close to Turkey Creek in the East Kimberley in the far north west of Western Australia.
Yinjaa-Barni Art
Yinjaa-Barni emerged as a significant Pilbara art centre based in Roebourne in the north-west of Western Australia.
Yuendumu Art
Yuendumu community lies about 280 kilometres north-west of Alice Springs along the Tanami Track, and has approximately 1000 mainly Warlpiri speaking residents.
