Bindi Mwerre Anthurre Artists

About

Founded in 2000, Bindi Mwerre Anthurre Artists Studio has emerged as a groundbreaking initiative in Australia, uniquely situated at the intersection of assisted art studios and traditional Aboriginal Art Centres. This innovative studio empowers Aboriginal artists with disabilities by offering comprehensive support. This includes access to studio spaces, a chance to exhibit their works nationally, involvement in design collaborations, multimedia projects, and participation in prestigious art fairs and awards.

Originating from diverse Central Desert communities, from Kaltukatjara (Docker River) to Yuendumu, most of these artists call Mparntwe (Alice Springs) their home. Their art is a profound embodiment of self-expression and a deep-seated bond with their ancestral lands. These artistic practices are not just about creating art; they are fundamental acts of maintaining and expressing personal and cultural identities.

The journey of Mwerre Anthurre Artists is intertwined with the legacy of Bindi Enterprises, established in 1978 to create employment and community engagement opportunities for people with disabilities.

Now, Bindi Mwerre Anthurre Artists is celebrated for both its artistic contributions and its commitment to empowering artists with disabilities. The studio has become a hub for artists whose work is increasingly recognized and coveted by art galleries and private collectors. It stands as a beacon of creativity and cultural preservation, highlighting the enduring legacy of Aboriginal art and the remarkable talents of its artists.
