Sonya Edney

Sonya Edney returns to present new paintings made since her last solo exhibition at Japingka in September 2024. This is Sonya’s seventh solo exhibition at the Gallery and we welcome the latest paintings as they fill the display walls.

Much of the work focuses on Wildflower Country, the rebirth of life after strong rains reach the Gascoyne region. With titles like Rainstorm, Wildflower Country and Healing Waters, Sonya celebrates the cycle of nature as the red earth bursts into colour. Rains fill the dry watercourses, the rivers, creeks and claypans. This in turn allows the dormant plant life to take over the vast open country, bringing fresh life and colour to the region. These qualities of renewal and regeneration inspire the artist and bring to us a wonderful new set of paintings to enjoy. Sonya says: “Painting inspires me, it takes me back home to where all my inspiration first started out in the bush with my family.”
