The What’s New collection presents the latest art to arrive at Japingka Gallery. With the gallery holding over 4,500 Aboriginal art works, there is always new art to investigate. This collection offers a quick overview of recent artworks produced from communities and regions around Australia. Japingka Gallery guarantees all the paintings it receives for quality, authenticity and provenance.

Australian Aboriginal art is constantly regenerating through the efforts of Indigenous artists around the country. Artists are using their cultural heritage and family networks to create environments where the oral history of their people is being re cast to provide creative ideas for painting as a vital part of everyday experience.

By re-telling the stories handed down through their family lineage, artists are reinforcing the culture while finding new means of expression in their artwork. The use of time-honoured rituals and songs provides a rich source for artists looking to continue the traditions of their forebears, while incorporating modern materials and methods. Finding visual means of representing their heritage allows artists the freedom to draw on the past to create a contemporary account of their culture.

Australian Aboriginal art is part of the constantly adapting nature of Indigenous people on this continent. The songlines that are unique to the many language groups across Australia enshrine the connection of people, land and culture. Preserving those connections and finding new ways of expression to celebrate the ancient values keeps Aboriginal communities strong and unified.

Knowledge of culture and traditions are transferred down through generations and the presence of art production in communities assists and strengthens this.
