The exhibition Ngayuku Tjukurrpa Mulapa – My True Story presents artworks by fourteen Pitjantjatjara painters depicting the central beliefs and stories that underlie their culture and their country.

Alison Munti Riley paints Kungkarangkapa, the Seven Sisters Jukurrpa from her homelands, a major Dreaming story that crosses and connects many Aboriginal language groups. Alison moves between Ernabella and Amata communities on the APY Lands, and her work has been exhibited widely since 2008 including in USA and Europe.

Carolanne Ken is an artist from Fregon who began painting in 2004. She paints Minyma Malilu, the Women’s Tjukurrpa passed down on her maternal grandmother line. This portrays the Ancestral Woman who travelled the country to regain her daughter who had run away with the ‘wrong man’. Here she dug out a cave with her coolamon to build a shelter. The fluid brush strokes across Carolanne’s canvas represent the digging marks created by Minyma Malilu as she dug the cave.

The contributing artists for this exhibition include Alison Munti Riley, Carolanne Ken, Madeline Curley, Maureen Baker, Teresa Baker, Meredith Curley, Julie and Janice Woods. The exhibition is showing at Japingka Gallery until 6 September.
