ReDot Fine Art Gallery
About
The REDOT Fine Art Gallery, established in 2004, stands out as a unique space in Singapore, exclusively dedicated to showcasing Australian Indigenous (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) art. This gallery, nestled within walking distance of the heritage-listed Chinatown precinct in a restored ‘Peranakan’ shop house, is part of the ‘Blair Plain’ conservation project. The gallery’s commitment to promoting the art and culture of Indigenous Australian artists is evident in the diverse range of artwork it meticulously selects, displaying the wide variety of cultural expression from these communities.
REDOT’s collection is extensive and varied, featuring works from both emerging and renowned Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander art centres. These centres are scattered across the tropical communities of Western Australia, Northern Territory, and Queensland, as well as the Central and Western Desert regions. The gallery takes pride in its stockroom, which includes pieces by some of Australia’s most highly acclaimed, internationally recognised Indigenous artists.
REDOT Fine Art Gallery is more than just a space for showcasing art. It is deeply rooted in the principles of community and cultural respect. The gallery sources its pieces only from ‘community-based’ art centres, which serve as crucial hubs for cultural, community, and arts activity. Through its partnerships with these centres, REDOT supports self-determination, maintenance of law and cultural activities, and community development through arts practice. This approach highlights the gallery’s dedication to fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Australian Indigenous art among its audience.
