Japingka Gallery’s first showing of the Artists from Iwantja comes to an end this week. Purchased works are now available for collection from the gallery. The response to the paintings has been very positive, with sales coming from nearly all the artists’ works in the exhibition.

Special comment was often made in relation to the extraordinary series of portraits created by Vincent Namatjira, that posed the politically current images of Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard along with historical and iconic images of Queen Elizabeth, Mathew Flinders, Captain Cook and Albert Namatjira.

We will continue to exhibit paintings from Iwantja community, and look forward to curating another exhibition in 2014. A number of artists from the community have been selected as finalists in the National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Awards in Darwin in August, so we look forward to seeing their works exhibited there.
