Landscape Colours

Indigenous artists represent their Country in the assorted colours of memory and season, here they have pooled their collective output to present a rich and diverse view of their Homelands. The colours represent landscapes from the coast to the desert, from the north to the south.

Colour becomes part of the representation of Country, along with the narrative elements and design style in the painting. Contributing artists include Gracie Ward Napaltjarri, Maureen Hudson Nampijinpa, Tommy Watson, Gracie Morton Pwerle, Gabriella Pussum Nungurrayi, Jeannie Mills Pwerle, Gloria Petyarre, Polly Ngale, Patrick Tjungurrayi, Helen McCarthy Tyalmuty, Rosella Namok, Esther Bruno Nangala and Belinda Golder Kngwarreye.

The importance of colour in representing Country and the significant Dreaming stories and food resources associated with that land is all made clear by these artists. We sense the changing seasons and the interplay of water and drought, the desert in bloom and the desert in dry season.

The exhibition is on display at Japingka from 8 February to 24 March 2019.
